PHOTOGRAPH AFRICA TOGETHER

small group photo safaris

Join me on carefully designed small group photo safaris through some of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife destinations. Created specifically for photographers, each journey combines exceptional wildlife encounters, dedicated photographic support and the company of a small group who share the same passion for the natural world.

With limited guest numbers and thoughtfully planned itineraries, there is time to slow down, observe, wait and make the most of every photographic opportunity.

THE SMALL GROUP DIFFERENCE

More Space. More Time.
More Photography.

Small group travel changes the entire rhythm of a photographic safari. With fewer photographers, there is more room to work, greater flexibility in the field and more time for individual photographic support.

Rather than moving as a large group, we can respond to what is happening around us. We can stay longer when a sighting develops, reposition when the light changes and make decisions around the photographic opportunities in front of us.

Just as importantly, small groups create a shared experience. You are travelling alongside people who understand the early starts, the long waits and the excitement of seeing an extraordinary moment come together through the viewfinder.

Limited Numbers

Intentionally small groups.

Guest numbers are kept low (maximum 3 guests per vehicle) to create a more personal experience, with greater space, flexibility and individual attention throughout the safari.

Space to Photograph

Your own space in the vehicle.

Photographic vehicles are configured to give each photographer room for themselves and their equipment, with clear access to shooting positions when opportunities develop.

Personal Support

Photograph at your level.

Whether you need help with camera settings or want to explore more advanced creative techniques, support is tailored to your experience, interests and photographic goals.

Shared Passion

Travel with people who understand.

There is something special about sharing the field with other photographers who are equally happy to wait, observe and give a great sighting the time it deserves.

THE SHARED EXPERIENCE

More Than a Seat in the Vehicle

There is something special about experiencing Africa alongside people who share the same passion. On a small group photo safari, nobody questions why you want to spend an hour with the same leopard, wait for the light to change or leave camp before sunrise for the possibility of a single photograph.

The small group becomes part of the experience. Time in the field is shared with photographers of different backgrounds and experience levels, while evenings offer the chance to talk photography, review images and relive the moments of the day.

Yet there is still space to work independently. You are never expected to photograph in a particular way or create the same images as everyone else. The experience is shared, but the photographs you create remain entirely your own.

IN THE FIELD

Photographic Support, From Start to Finish

Every photographer arrives with different experience, equipment and creative goals. My role is to understand where you are photographically and provide as much, or as little, support as you want throughout the journey.

In the field, that might mean helping with camera settings, autofocus, composition and exposure, or working through more advanced decisions around light, behaviour and creative approach. Just as importantly, I help you recognise what may happen next, giving you the chance to prepare for a moment rather than simply react when it happens.

The learning continues beyond the game drive. There is time to discuss images, work through questions and explore post-processing, while experienced photographers are equally free to work independently and use me as another set of eyes when they want it.

FIELDCRAFT

Behaviour, anticipation and recognising opportunities.

CAMERA & TECHNIQUE

Settings, autofocus, exposure and equipment.

CREATIVE DIRECTION

Composition, light and developing your own visual style.

IMAGE REVIEW & EDITING

Feedback, image selection and post-processing.

THE UNTAMED EXPERIENCE

What to Expect

My small group journeys are operated through Untamed Photo Safaris, the specialist photographic safari company I co-own. Together with our trusted teams on the ground, we design every journey specifically for photographers, bringing together the field logistics, local expertise and photographic support needed to create an exceptional experience from beginning to end.

SMALL GROUPS

SPACE WHERE IT MATTERS.

Guest numbers are intentionally limited, allowing more room in the field, greater flexibility and a more personal photographic experience throughout the journey.

THOUGHTFUL ITINERARIES

Right place. Right season.

Routes and departure dates are chosen around wildlife movements, seasonal conditions and the photographic opportunities each destination is known for.

EXPERT LOCAL GUIDES

Knowledge that only comes from the field.

We work alongside experienced local guides whose understanding of wildlife, behaviour and the landscapes we photograph is fundamental to every safari.

PHOTOGRAPHIC VEHICLES

Designed with photographers in mind.

Wherever possible, we use specially configured safari vehicles that provide photographers with dedicated space, clear shooting positions and practical support for camera equipment.

CAREFULLY CHOSEN STAYS

Comfort in the right locations.

Accommodation is selected not only for its quality and atmosphere, but also for its location and access to the wildlife areas we want to photograph, helping us make the most of every day in the field.

PHOTOGRAPHIC HOSTING

Support throughout the journey.

Every safari is accompanied by professional photographic support, from opportunities and technique in the field to image discussions and post-processing throughout the trip.
